On January 18, 2025, 49-year-old African American woman Lenisa Washington was fatally shot in her home at 3429 St. Benedict Street in Houston, Texas. Responding to a shooting call around 2:55 p.m., Houston Police Department officers found Ms. Washington with multiple gunshot wounds inside the residence. Emergency medical personnel pronounced her deceased at the scene.
Investigators identified the suspect as 26-year-old Zacchaeus Parker, Ms. Washington's son.
Family members informed officers that Parker had shot his mother. He was located nearby, detained, and found to be in possession of a firearm. After interviewing witnesses and consulting with the Harris County District Attorney's Office, detectives charged Parker with murder in the 351st State District Court.
Ms. Washington's funeral services were held on January 30, 2025, at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church in Houston, followed by interment at Houston Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Pearland, Texas. The community mourned the loss of the 49-year-old African American woman, remembering her life and legacy.
