On January 26, 2025, a tragic shooting at a nightclub in Amarillo, Texas, claimed the life of 25-year-old John Love Louima. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning when a vehicle approached the entrance of the nightclub on South Polk Street. According to witness reports, an individual exited the vehicle and opened fire into a crowd with a rifle before quickly returning to the vehicle and fleeing the scene.
The shooting resulted in nine people sustaining gunshot wounds, with Louima succumbing to his injuries at the hospital.
Authorities responded swiftly to the emergency calls, and a bystander who witnessed the attack followed the suspect’s vehicle, providing its direction of travel to law enforcement. This led Randall County Sheriff’s deputies to locate and stop the vehicle near Hillside and Bell streets. Three individuals were arrested in connection with the shooting. The suspected shooter was identified as 23-year-old Robert Kenney Knox, while the driver of the vehicle was identified as 21-year-old Nahryah Hilesta Ines Hayes. A third passenger, 22-year-old Britt Brinson Cave, was also taken into custody.
Knox and Hayes have been charged with one count of murder and eight counts of deadly conduct. Cave, who was in the backseat of the vehicle, was charged with public intoxication. Investigators believe the shooting may have stemmed from an earlier altercation inside the nightclub, though the exact motive remains under investigation. Law enforcement officials recovered a firearm, shell casings, and other evidence from the scene as they continue to piece together the events leading up to the attack.
The Amarillo Police Department, along with other local agencies, has been working diligently to gather information and ensure justice is served. The city has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and extended condolences to Louima’s family. The conditions of the other victims who were injured in the shooting have not been publicly disclosed.
