Iosha Shaw, a 41-year-old Black woman, was found dead on February 27, 2025, in Hutto, Texas, in what authorities have described as an apparent murder-suicide. The tragic incident also claimed the lives of her mother, 58-year-old Deffenia Lynch, and 60-year-old Kerry Carter, the suspected perpetrator.
According to reports, Hutto police responded to a residence on Seaholm Lane after receiving a distressing call from Carter, who stated that he had killed two people and intended to take his own life. Upon arrival, officers attempted to communicate with Carter through the front door, but a single gunshot was heard before they could enter. Inside the home, authorities discovered the bodies of Shaw, Lynch, and Carter.
Investigators noted that the garage of the residence was closed and filled with smoke, and accelerants were found both in the car and inside the house. This prompted additional fire and arson specialists to assess the scene for potential hazards. Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the killings, and it remains unclear how Carter was connected to Shaw and Lynch.
The Hutto Police Department, along with multiple emergency response teams, worked to secure the area and ensure there was no further danger to the community. Chief Jeffrey Yarbrough expressed condolences to the victims' families and emphasized the rarity of such incidents in Hutto.
