On February 17, 2025, Diane G. Spangler, a 68-year-old white female from Afton, Virginia, was tragically killed in a mass shooting at the Harris Teeter grocery store parking lot in Crozet, Virginia. The incident began around 1:35 p.m. when 28-year-old Justin M. Barbour, also of Crozet, opened fire with an AR-15 rifle, first shooting and killing 43-year-old Peter L. Martin as he exited the store.
