In the early morning hours of Saturday, January 25, 2025, a house party in SeaTac, Washington, turned tragic, ending the life of 25-year-old Eucharise John Tavita. Also known to some as Endurance Brown, the young man was fatally shot during a gathering filled with family and friends. The event took a dark turn when an argument between Tavita and another partygoer, identified as 33-year-old Jay Johnson, escalated into a physical confrontation.
Witnesses reported that Johnson initiated the
physical altercation, which quickly intensified. In a sudden escalation of violence, Johnson is alleged to have drawn a 9mm Taurus pistol and fired multiple shots. Tavita was struck in the torso, sustaining two fatal gunshot wounds, one of which pierced his lung and liver. Emergency responders arrived at the residence in the 3700 block of South 170th Street, but Tavita was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after. The King County Medical Examiner's Office later officially ruled his death a homicide.
A second individual, a 26-year-old woman named Kammy Ra, was also injured in the melee, suffering a gunshot wound to her leg. She was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of her non-life-threatening injuries. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, several attendees at the party bravely intervened, disarming Johnson and detaining him until law enforcement arrived. They handed his firearm over to the SeaTac Police and King County Sheriff's Office deputies who responded to the scene.
Following the incident, Jay Johnson was arrested and subsequently charged with second-degree murder for the death of Eucharise John Tavita and first-degree assault for the injuries sustained by Kammy Ra. Prosecutors, describing Johnson as the aggressor who resorted to deadly violence with little provocation, requested a $2 million bail. Although Johnson had no prior criminal record, prosecutors argued his actions demonstrated a propensity for violence that made him a danger to the community.
