In the Soulsville neighborhood of Memphis on the afternoon of January 29, 2025, a dispute inside a home on College Park Drive took a tragic and violent turn. Leon Parker, a 30-year-old man, was present when an argument, reportedly sparked by a dice game, escalated into an exchange of gunfire. When Memphis Police responded to the scene just after 3:30 p.m., they discovered a chaotic and grim situation with five people having been shot.
Parker was pronounced dead at the scene, a direct victim of the violence that had erupted.
The shooting spree claimed another life, that of 27-year-old Marcus Epps, who was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Three other individuals, two men and a woman, were also critically wounded in the gunfire and transported to area hospitals for treatment. Their efforts led to a significant development on March 25, 2025, with the arrest of 31-year-old Lorenzo Brown. According to court records, Brown was identified as one of the gunmen involved in the fatal altercation. A female victim who survived the shooting identified Brown to the police, stating that he had shot her in the leg as she lay in the kitchen where the incident occurred. Brown was subsequently charged with aggravated assault in connection with the mass shooting.
