In the quiet community of Levy, just south of Hardeeville, South Carolina, a domestic dispute escalated into a devastating tragedy on the evening of April 29, 2025, claiming the life of 46-year-old Christine L. Gonzalez. Deputies from the Jasper County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the McDowell Circle home she shared with her husband after receiving a call about a domestic disturbance around 7:20 p.m.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement discovered a grim scene.
Both Christine Gonzalez and her 55-year-old husband, Apolinar Gonzalez-Sanchez, were found deceased inside their residence, both having suffered from gunshot wounds. The preliminary investigation by the Jasper County Sheriff's Office and the Coroner's Office led authorities to believe that the incident was a murder-suicide.
Investigators theorize that Apolinar Gonzalez-Sanchez shot his wife before turning the firearm on himself. The couple had reportedly lived at the McDowell Circle home since 2006. The investigation into the apparent murder-suicide remains ongoing by the Jasper County Sheriff's Office. As the sole suspect in the death of Christine Gonzalez is also deceased, there have been no arrests in the case.
