On the evening of December 18, 2024, in Amsterdam, NY, 34-year-old Robert M. Green Jr. was found lying in the roadway on James Street with multiple gunshot wounds. The incident occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m., at which point bystanders were already attempting to provide life-saving measures. Amsterdam Police and Montgomery County Sheriff deputies arrived on the scene and took over emergency medical aid until paramedics from the Amsterdam Fire Department transported Green to Albany Medical Center. Despite the efforts to save him, Robert M. Green Jr., a male, succumbed to his injuries and passed away late in the night on December 19, 2024.
An investigation was promptly launched by Amsterdam Police Detectives in collaboration with the New York State Police Major Crimes Unit and the NYSP Forensic Identification Unit. The investigation quickly led to the identification of a suspect, 30-year-old Angel Morales of Amsterdam. Police determined that Green and Morales were acquainted and that the shooting was the result of an ongoing dispute between them.
Angel Morales was arrested on December 19 and has been charged with felony second-degree murder. He was arraigned in Amsterdam City Court before Judge William J. Mycek and was subsequently remanded to the custody of the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail. The investigation remains active as law enforcement continues to gather information regarding the motive and to determine if any other individuals were involved. The weapon used in the shooting has not yet been recovered. Authorities have encouraged anyone with relevant information to contact the Amsterdam Police detectives to assist with the ongoing investigation.
