On a cold December evening in Amsterdam, New York, the life of Robert Green, a 34-year-old White/Caucasian male, was tragically cut short. On December 18, 2024, at around 7:20 p.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet of James Street. When officers from the Amsterdam Police Department and Montgomery County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene, they found Green lying in the roadway, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Concerned citizens were already at his side, attempting to render aid before emergency medical services took over.
Paramedics from the Amsterdam Fire Department worked quickly to stabilize Green before rushing him to Albany Medical Center. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries late in the evening on December 19, 2024. His family was by his side. An avid fan of the Raiders, Robert was remembered for his love of fishing, camping, listening to music, wrestling, four-wheeling, and tattooing. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his family.
In the wake of the shooting, a swift and intensive investigation was launched by Amsterdam Police detectives, with assistance from the New York State Police Major Crimes Unit and the NYSP Forensic Identification Unit. Their efforts quickly led them to a suspect: 30-year-old Angel Morales, also of Amsterdam. Investigators determined that Green and Morales were acquainted and that the fatal shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the two men.
On December 19, the same day Green passed away, Angel Morales was taken into custody and charged with felony second-degree murder. Following his arrest, Morales was arraigned in Amsterdam City Court. He was subsequently remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without the possibility of bail. While an arrest has been made, the investigation into the shooting remains active as authorities continue to piece together the events that led to the deadly confrontation. The weapon used in the commission of the crime has not yet been recovered.
