In the St. Albans neighborhood of Queens, 51-year-old Sherman Walker, a Black male, was known by his neighbors as a quiet and jovial man. He lived in a basement apartment on the same block where his life would tragically end. Those who knew him described him as an outgoing jokester who was always on the move.
On the evening of Saturday, January 18, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the sound of multiple gunshots shattered the residential calm at the corner of 204th Street and Murdock
Avenue. Responding to a 911 call, officers from the 113th Precinct arrived to a grim scene. They found Sherman Walker with severe gunshot wounds to his neck, abdomen, and left leg. Emergency medical services rushed him to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
The shooting marked the first homicide of the year for the 113th Precinct. Homicide detectives immediately began an investigation, canvassing the area and seeking to understand the motive behind the fatal shooting, which occurred just blocks from Walker's home on Francis Lewis Boulevard.
