In a quiet Lindenhurst neighborhood, the life of 66-year-old Marek Guściora was tragically cut short in what police have described as a murder-suicide. On a Monday afternoon, authorities were called to Guściora's Nevada Street home following a 911 call about a man lying in the front yard. Upon their arrival at approximately 3:57 p.m., they discovered Guściora with a gunshot wound to his chest.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation quickly led police to a second location, a mere half-mile away. Roughly an hour after the initial discovery, detectives found 69-year-old Augustyn Jedra in a vehicle parked in a lot on Park Avenue. Jedra, who was undomiciled, was found deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities have indicated that Guściora and Jedra were once friends, though the motive for the tragic events remains under investigation. The Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad is continuing to look into the circumstances that led to the two deaths. While the investigation continues, it is believed that Jedra was the perpetrator in Guściora's death before taking his own life. The case has left the Lindenhurst community in shock, with neighbors and friends of Guściora expressing their grief.
