In the late hours of a Saturday night in Las Vegas, a life was tragically cut short in a violent encounter. Patrick Kelly O'Brien, a 57-year-old Caucasian male, found himself in a heated altercation behind a business on West Sahara Avenue on February 4, 2017. The dispute escalated, and O'Brien was subjected to a brutal attack, sustaining multiple stab wounds.
Law enforcement officers responded to the scene just after 11:20 p.m. to find O'Brien unresponsive.
Despite any efforts to render aid, he succumbed to his severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the location, near South Valley View Boulevard. The Clark County coroner's office would later confirm the cause of death as multiple stab wounds and officially rule the manner of death a homicide.
In the immediate aftermath of the incident, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department launched an investigation into O'Brien's death. However, at the time of the initial reports, a suspect had not been identified, and no arrests had been made in connection with the fatal stabbing. The circumstances leading up to the fight and the identity of the other individual involved remained unclear. Law enforcement officials appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the apprehension of the person or persons responsible for this violent act. The case was noted as the 17th homicide investigated by the department in 2017.
