In the late hours of a Saturday night in Central Islip, New York, a social gathering turned deadly, leaving one man dead and another facing a lifetime behind bars. Gustavo Godinez-Carcamo, a 40-year-old male, was shot and killed on March 15, 2025, in the driveway of his home on Anne Lane. The evening had been spent with acquaintances, including Jeremias Anaribamoran, drinking alcohol.
Just before midnight, an argument erupted between Godinez-Carcamo and Anaribamoran as they sat in the back of a parked vehicle. The verbal dispute escalated tragically when Anaribamoran, then 47, pulled out a 9mm handgun and shot Godinez-Carcamo three times in the torso and right arm. Despite his injuries, Godinez-Carcamo managed to flee to his nearby home. First responders attempted life-saving measures before he was rushed to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect, Jeremias Anaribamoran, fled the scene on foot immediately after the shooting. However, an investigation by the Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad quickly led to his identification. Three days later, on March 18, after hours of surveillance at his home, Anaribamoran was arrested. While in custody, he confessed to the murder to two Spanish-speaking homicide detectives. He also led them to the murder weapon, which he had discarded in his trash, and the clothing he wore during the crime.
Anaribamoran, a Honduran national, was indicted on charges of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. In September, he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Subsequently, on October 23, 2025, Jeremias Anaribamoran was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. Following the completion of his sentence, he faces deportation as federal immigration officials have lodged a detainer to take him into custody.
