Do you know who murdered Ashley Wellito? In the early morning hours of April 19, 2017, the life of 25-year-old Ashley Wellito, a Native American woman from New Mexico, ended mysteriously in Las Vegas. At approximately 6:05 a.m., an unknown man and woman brought a critically injured Wellito to the emergency room entrance of Mountain View Hospital. She was suffering from severe injuries, including broken legs and head trauma.
The pair who dropped her off did not provide any information to the medical staff about how she sustained her injuries and quickly departed the scene.
Due to the severity of her condition, Wellito was transferred to UMC Trauma. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, she was pronounced dead at around 9:30 a.m. The nature of her injuries prompted homicide detectives from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to launch an investigation into her suspicious death.
Investigators released surveillance footage from the hospital showing the individuals who left Wellito at the hospital. The man was described as a Black adult male with a medium build and height, last seen wearing a True Religion workout suit and a New York Yankees baseball cap. The woman was described as a Hispanic adult female wearing dark pants and a dark, zippered sweatshirt. They were seen driving a black vehicle. Police have considered the possibility that Wellito's injuries could have resulted from an accident, and not necessarily foul play.
A year after her death, police revealed that Wellito was last seen at a CVS near the Hard Rock Hotel in a black Mercedes, which has never been located. Her family shared that her desire for an adventurous life led her to Las Vegas, where she was working as a sex worker, a factor police believe has made it more difficult to gather information from potential witnesses. Despite public appeals for information and the release of the surveillance video, no arrests have been made in the case, which remains an unsolved cold case. Her family continues to seek answers and justice for her death.
