On the evening of January 22, 2025, a premeditated plan for violence began to unfold in Aurora, Missouri, which would ultimately lead to the death of 53-year-old male Troy Eugene Huffman. Taylor Santiago, the victim's estranged wife, formulated a scheme to kill Huffman and others while she was out purchasing coffee. Late that night, she contacted Huffman and invited him to her apartment under the false pretense that he could visit their child.
