On the evening of January 22, 2025, a premeditated plan for violence began to unfold in Aurora, Missouri, which would ultimately lead to the death of 53-year-old male Troy Eugene Huffman. Taylor Santiago, the victim's estranged wife, formulated a scheme to kill Huffman and others while she was out purchasing coffee. Late that night, she contacted Huffman and invited him to her apartment under the false pretense that he could visit their child.
When Huffman arrived at the residence,
Santiago initiated her trap. She directed the child to a bedroom and instructed him to cover his ears, claiming she needed to deal with 'bad guys.' Once the child was out of sight, she retrieved a concealed. 38 caliber revolver and confronted Huffman. She fired multiple rounds, striking him and causing fatal injuries. After he collapsed, she moved his body to clear the doorway, took his keys, and stole his vehicle.
Leaving the scene of the murder, Santiago drove Huffman’s stolen car across state lines to Carroll County, Arkansas, where she continued her violent spree. There, she shot two other individuals—her ex-boyfriend and his current girlfriend—resulting in the death of the woman and critical injuries to the man. Following these attacks, she drove back to Missouri.
The rampage ended in the early morning hours of January 23, 2025, when Santiago drove to the Aurora Police and Fire Facility. From the parking lot, she called authorities to confess that she had killed three people. Officers arrested her immediately and were dispatched to her apartment, where they discovered Huffman’s body.
In the subsequent legal proceedings, Santiago faced charges of first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, armed criminal action, and endangering the welfare of a child. She pleaded guilty to the charges in April 2025. Two months later, a judge handed down a sentence of life in prison plus an additional 41 years, ensuring she would remain incarcerated for the remainder of her life.
