On the afternoon of December 31, 2024, the life of 24-year-old Alexis Deshanna House of Toomsuba, Mississippi, was tragically cut short. Deputies from the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department responded to an emergency call at approximately 1:51 p.m. reporting a shooting at a home located in the 4000 block of York Road. Upon their arrival, they discovered House inside the residence, lying on the floor with a single gunshot wound to her head.

Ambulance made efforts to save her life, but their attempts were unsuccessful, and House was pronounced dead at the scene. The initial investigation into the shooting began immediately, with authorities assuring the public that there was no broader danger to the community as all individuals involved had been identified. For months, investigators meticulously worked on the case, conducting numerous interviews and analyzing forensic evidence, including the final autopsy report.
The investigation culminated in the arrest of 28-year-old Ja'Carrius LaShon Gaddis of Lauderdale on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. Authorities confirmed that Gaddis and House were in a domestic relationship at the time of her death. He was subsequently charged with murder. Gaddis's bond was set at $250,000, which he posted, leading to his release from the Lauderdale County Detention Facility on the same day as his arrest. The case against him is slated to be presented to the next available Lauderdale County grand jury for further consideration.
