In the heat of a Las Vegas summer evening on July 20, 2017, a domestic dispute turned fatal for 52-year-old Larry Darnell Richard, an African-American male. The incident unfolded in the central Las Vegas Valley, where an argument between Richard and his girlfriend escalated inside an apartment.
The confrontation spilled out into the parking lot after the woman managed to escape the apartment. It was there that another man intervened, leading to a physical altercation with Richard. In a sudden and tragic turn of events, the intervening man shot Richard once in the chest. The single gunshot wound proved to be fatal, and Richard died at the scene.
Law enforcement officials who responded to the incident did not immediately arrest the shooter. They indicated that the man may have been acting in self-defense on behalf of Richard's girlfriend.
