In the quiet town of Kensington, Maryland, the life of 29-year-old Trevor Dean Van Devander was abruptly cut short on the evening of Monday, January 13, 2025. A resident of Sykesville, Van Devander was fatally shot in what authorities have described as an altercation that turned deadly. The incident unfolded inside a residence on the 3900 block of Franklin Street.
Responding to a report of a shooting at approximately 5:40 p.m., Montgomery County Police officers arrived at the scene to
find Van Devander suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the location. The tragic event shattered the lives of his loved ones, including his partner and their young son, with another child on the way. Van Devander and his partner had been looking forward to purchasing their first family home and were planning to marry later in the year.
The investigation into the shooting led to the swift arrest of 21-year-old Benjamin Jack Dresbach, a resident of the Kensington home where the incident occurred. Evidence suggests that Van Devander and Dresbach were inside the residence when a dispute escalated, culminating in the fatal shooting. Dresbach was taken into custody and has since been charged with second-degree murder.
Following his arrest, Dresbach was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. He is currently being held without bond as he awaits legal proceedings. The case has left a somber mark on the community, highlighting the devastating impact of violence.
