On the morning of January 19, 2025, a fatal shooting in the Southern District of Baltimore claimed the life of 43-year-old Hassan Howard. The incident unfolded around 8:45 a.m. in the 400 block of Washburn Avenue, where police responded to a report of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered two men inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. Both Howard and a 35-year-old male were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Howard was pronounced dead a short time later from gunshot wounds to his arm, chest, and neck. The second victim survived his injuries.
An investigation led by homicide detectives identified two suspects who allegedly approached the vehicle on foot, opened fire, and then fled in a dark-colored Hyundai Kona. Through the use of surveillance footage and license plate reader data, authorities identified brothers Darren and Dylon Tomlinson as the suspects. On March 19, 2025, investigators arrested 30-year-old Darren Tomlinson in the 3700 block of 2nd Street. He was taken to the Central Booking Intake Facility and charged with first-degree murder.
Darren Tomlinson, at the age of 31, appeared for a reception court hearing on August 8, 2025, before Judge Melissa K. Copeland. He is facing charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and multiple gun-related offenses. During the hearing, the prosecution's plea offer was rejected. The next court date for Tomlinson was scheduled for November 18, 2025.
