On December 27, 2017, 27-year-old Rhonda Ballow and her friend Alfred Wilhelm, aged 53, were found shot to death behind a swap meet in central Las Vegas. The two victims, both homeless, were sleeping on a mattress when they were shot multiple times. Rhonda Ballow was tragically killed simply for staying with her friend, as the shooter, Michael Thompson, claimed he harbored a deep-seated hatred for sex offenders, and Wilhelm was on the sex offender registry due to a conviction decades prior.
