In the early morning hours of May 3, 2025, the life of 22-year-old Larry Lavesta Mosley Jr. was tragically cut short. Affectionately known as “Lit Larry,” he was a beloved son, brother, and father of two. His journey, which began on November 19, 2002, ended in a fatal shooting at The Windsor Arms Apartments on McComb Avenue in Port Gibson, Mississippi.
Having embarked on a promising career path that saw him transition from an internship to a full-time position at Tyson's Food, his diligence and commitment were well-regarded by his colleagues. Above all his accomplishments, he took the most pride in being a protective and loving big brother to his siblings.
The Port Gibson Police Department responded to a call of gunfire at approximately 3:38 a.m. and discovered Mosley suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation into his death quickly led to the identification of a suspect. D'Onee Edwards, a 20-year-old resident of Port Gibson, was arrested in connection with the shooting.
Initially charged with murder, the severity of the allegations against Edwards escalated, and his charge was upgraded to capital murder. During his court appearance before Judge Mareesha Odom, he was denied bond. The investigation continued to unfold, leading to a second arrest. Ca'Marrious West was taken into custody and charged as an accessory after the fact. West was arraigned before the same judge and his bond was set at $50,000. The case remains under active investigation as authorities continue to piece together the events that led to Mosley's untimely death. The community and his family, including his parents Larry Sr. and LaKisha Mosley, his siblings, and his two young children, Lauryn and Carter, were left to mourn the profound loss of a young life full of potential.
