On January 1, 2025, 51-year-old African American man Martinez Williams was fatally shot during an armed robbery at a liquor store in Chicago's West Englewood neighborhood. The incident occurred around 12:31 p.m. in the 7500 block of South Racine Avenue. According to police reports, two individuals entered the store, and one of them, armed with a firearm, demanded Williams's property.
