On the evening of Wednesday, April 30, 2025, violence erupted on the West Side of Saginaw, Michigan, resulting in the untimely death of 41-year-old Black / African American resident Michael Wayne Carroll Jr. The incident took place just after 6:00 p.m. near the intersection of South Michigan Avenue and Wayne Street. Units from the Saginaw Police Department and the Michigan State Police responded to the scene following reports of a shooting, where they discovered a chaotic situation involving two victims who had been struck by gunfire.
First responders located Carroll and a 66-year-old male at the scene, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel transported the victims to Covenant HealthCare for urgent treatment. While the 66-year-old man was listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, Carroll tragically succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Born in Saginaw, Carroll was remembered by his community as a "gentle giant" who worked as a cook at Texas Roadhouse and enjoyed hobbies such as fishing, bowling, and camping. He was a father to two sons and was known by the nickname "4 Mike Bibby."
In the wake of the homicide, the Saginaw Police Department launched an investigation into the double shooting. As of the initial reports following the incident, authorities confirmed that no arrests had been made and no specific suspects were in custody. Investigators did not immediately release a description of a potential shooter or a motive for the attack.
