On Christmas night in the small community of Calvin, Kentucky, a family gathering took a tragic turn, leaving one man dead and a teenager facing serious charges. Michael Smith, a 55-year-old male, was shot and killed during what authorities have described as an altercation between family members. The incident unfolded at a residence on Highway 3482, prompting a call to Bell County dispatch at 10:24 p.m.

Upon their arrival, deputies found that CPR had been administered to Michael Smith, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he succumbed to the gunshot wound at the scene. The Bell County Sheriff's Department secured the area, and the deputy coroner officially pronounced him deceased. An investigation into the shooting was immediately launched by law enforcement.
In the days following the fatal shooting, the investigation led to the arrest of an 18-year-old family member, Hunter Smith. On December 30, the teenager was taken into custody and has since been charged with first-degree manslaughter in connection with the death of Michael Smith.
