Cody L. Rhodes, a 37-year-old male, was fatally shot on February 3, 2025, in Dupo, Illinois. The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. in the 100 block of North 2nd Street, where officers responded to reports of multiple gunshots. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to a local hospital, where Cody L. Rhodes succumbed to his injuries.
The second victim sustained non-life-threatening wounds.
Following an extensive investigation, authorities arrested three suspects in connection with the homicide. Kingston L. Todd, a 16-year-old male, was charged as an adult with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owner Identification card, and forgery. Bryce M. Rhodes, an 18-year-old male and the son of Cody L. Rhodes, faced charges of unlawful sale of a firearm, possession of a firearm without a FOID card, and obstructing justice. A third suspect, a 15-year-old male, was also charged with first-degree murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and possession of a firearm without a FOID card.
The investigation was led by the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis, which mobilized 18 investigators to pursue leads. The Dupo Police Department, recognizing the complexity of the case, requested assistance from multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Illinois State Police, St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, and several local police departments. The suspects were taken into custody following the issuance of formal charges by the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the relationships between the suspects and the victim. The case underscores the ongoing concerns regarding firearm accessibility and youth involvement in violent crimes. All individuals charged remain innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
