On the evening of February 28, 2025, Michael Nelson, a 39-year-old African American man from the Irving Park neighborhood of Chicago, was found fatally shot inside a residential building in the East Garfield Park area. Officers responding around 10 p.m. to the 3100 block of West Madison Street discovered Mr. Nelson lying in a hallway with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
