Anthony Trujillo, a 51-year-old male, was fatally shot on February 23, 2025, in Lemon Grove, California. Deputies from the Lemon Grove Substation responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at Kunkel Park around 12:40 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Trujillo lying on the ground with trauma to his upper torso. Emergency responders, including Heartland Fire and AMR paramedics, provided life-saving measures before transporting him to a local hospital. Tragically, Trujillo succumbed to his injuries. The Medical Examiner’s Office later determined that the preliminary cause of death was a gunshot wound to the neck, classifying the incident as a homicide.
Authorities arrested 26-year-old Andrew Cardona Gomez in connection with the shooting. Gomez was taken into custody at a residence on South Magnolia Avenue in El Cajon on February 27, 2025. Investigators believe that Trujillo and Gomez were acquainted, though the motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Gomez is currently being held at San Diego Central Jail without bail and is awaiting arraignment.
