On March 16, 2025, 34-year-old Rudy Veloz, a resident of Orange Cove, California, was fatally shot at the Orchard Village Apartment Complex. The incident occurred around 1:10 p.m. when dispatchers received reports of gunfire outside the complex. Orange Cove Police arrived at the scene within minutes and were directed to an apartment unit where they found Rudy Veloz suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately began administering medical aid, and Veloz, who was conscious at the time, was transported by ambulance to Reedley Hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Authorities quickly launched an investigation into the shooting and identified a suspect—a 16-year-old boy who was known to the victim. The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office deployed its helicopter, EAGLE One, to assist in locating the suspect. Shortly after, patrol deputies apprehended the teenager a short distance from the apartment complex. He was taken into custody, and investigators began working to determine the motive behind the shooting. While an arrest has been made, law enforcement officials continue to seek additional information regarding the case.
