On the evening of May 3, 2025, law enforcement officers in Indianapolis, Indiana, were summoned to the intersection of Chadbourne Drive and West St. Clair Street following reports of a shooting. Upon arriving at the scene on the city’s west side, they discovered a vehicle parked near the intersection containing an unresponsive individual. Inside the car was Sapanna Q. Harris-Williams, a 42-year-old African American female, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Medics pronounced her deceased at the scene, launching a homicide investigation that quickly focused on a suspect found in the immediate vicinity.
Witnesses in the area provided harrowing accounts of the moments leading up to the police arrival. One bystander reported seeing a gray Pontiac drive up before the driver, who appeared heavily intoxicated, exited the vehicle and began making disturbing declarations. The man reportedly boasted about the violence, telling those nearby that there was a body in the car and explicitly stating that he had shot the victim. During these interactions, he allegedly made graphic comments about the nature of the injury. When officers located the man, identified as 40-year-old Tramone Allen, just a block away from the crime scene, he became uncooperative. Allen reportedly urged the officers to shoot him and refused to comply with commands, prompting police to deploy a taser to subdue and detain him.
Subsequent investigation revealed a history of domestic turbulence between Harris-Williams and Allen. Family members disclosed that the victim had been in a violent relationship with Allen and had suffered abuse in the weeks leading up to her death. Her mother recounted a frightening incident just the night before the shooting where Allen had dragged Harris-Williams from her home. On the day of the murder, family members received strange and concerning text messages from Allen that raised alarms about her safety. A search of the vehicle recovered a shotgun in plain view on the back seat, and Allen was formally charged with murder by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, where he was ordered to be held without bond.
