The victim, a Caucasian woman, was fatally shot inside her home in the early hours of the morning. Authorities responded to the scene after receiving a distress call, and upon arrival, they discovered her lifeless body. Law enforcement quickly identified the suspect
as Ashley Vaia’s ex-husband, 33-year-old Samuel Vaia. The Caucasian man fled the scene in a white SUV, prompting a high-speed pursuit involving multiple agencies. His vehicle was detected traveling northbound on Interstate 95 at speeds exceeding 100 mph as he attempted to evade capture. On March 23, 2025, at approximately 1:48 a.m., she reported that her ex-husband had entered her bedroom, taken her phone, and accused her of infidelity. The couple had been attempting to reconcile, and he still had access to her home due to a time-sharing arrangement involving their child. During the altercation, Ashley stated that Samuel forcefully pushed her into a bathroom, covered her mouth, and prevented her from calling 911. She was only able to break free when she called for her daughter, at which point he fled. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on a battery charge but was released on a $2,000 bond the following evening.
