Jampier Quintero, a 44-year-old Venezuelan man, was tragically killed in a shooting at a Fresno barbershop on April 19, 2025. Quintero, who had immigrated to the United States from Caracas, Venezuela, was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of a violent altercation. He had taken his children to Los Viejones Barbershop on Belmont and Van Ness for haircuts before Easter when the shooting occurred.
The incident unfolded when 18-year-old Kobe Chantharangsy, who was getting a haircut at the time, pulled a firearm from beneath his haircut drape and opened fire on rival gang members who had entered the shop. As the rivals fled, Chantharangsy continued shooting, striking Quintero in the abdomen. Two other victims, a 17-year-old and a 20-year-old, were also injured but later released from the hospital.
Quintero succumbed to his injuries the following day, on Easter Sunday, leaving behind his grieving wife, Gabriela Lopez, and their children. Lopez expressed her devastation, describing her husband's killer as "evil" and a "danger to humanity." She shared the heartbreaking reality of explaining Quintero's death to their young son, who continues to ask for his father. The family had moved to the U.S. seeking safety and a better life, only to be met with tragedy.
Authorities linked Chantharangsy to another shooting that had occurred on April 18, where a 19-year-old man was hospitalized with three gunshot wounds. On April 26, plainclothes detectives arrested Chantharangsy, charging him with murder and other offenses related to both shootings. In addition to Chantharangsy, Adrian Echeverria was also arrested as an accessory to the crime. The arrests brought some relief to Quintero’s family, who had feared retaliation from the suspect. Fresno Police continue their investigation into the incident, ensuring justice for Quintero and his loved ones.
