In the late hours of February 19, 2025, a young Hispanic male named Wilberto Millet, 19 years old, was found dead in West Haven, Connecticut. Responding to a 911 call at approximately 11:40 p.m., police discovered him unresponsive in the back seat of a car parked on Terrace Avenue near Glad Street. He had sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
At the time of the incident, it was reported that four other individuals were in the car with him.
Originally from Bridgeport and having recently moved from West Haven to Waterbury, Wilberto was a 2024 graduate of West Haven High School. He was known for his dedication to boxing, having trained as an amateur for eight years at Ring One in New Haven. His mother described him as a loving and caring person with goals and dreams, who was a dedicated athlete. Family and friends held a vigil in his honor outside his boxing gym, remembering the aspiring boxer.
The West Haven Police Department launched an investigation into Millet's death. While the case has been reported as a possible accidental or self-inflicted shooting, detectives have been working to confirm the exact circumstances. As of late February 2025, the state's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner had not yet determined the official cause and manner of death. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation remains active, and police have urged anyone with information to come forward.
