In the quiet Desert Cedars neighborhood of Maricopa, Arizona, a tragedy unfolded on April 9, 2025, leading to the death of 68-year-old Diane Zeitler. A white female, Diane was discovered in her home by Maricopa Police who were responding to a request for a welfare check around 11 a.m. She was found to have died from a catastrophic gunshot wound to the head.
Further investigation by the Pinal County Medical Examiner's Office officially classified Diane's death as a homicide. In the same residence, authorities also found her 40-year-old son, Andre Zeitler, deceased. Andre's death was determined to be a suicide from a self-inflicted shotgun wound. The evidence at the scene pointed to a murder-suicide, with Andre as the sole perpetrator.
Investigators discovered several suicide notes left by Andre. In one, he stated he 'took away her pain,' alluding to his mother's battle with multiple sclerosis and deteriorating health. Friends of Andre described him as a kind and generous person who had taken on the role of his mother's full-time caregiver. They also indicated he was struggling with his own mental health, job loss, and the stress of starting a new business. No arrests were made in connection with Diane's death as police concluded Andre acted alone, and there was no ongoing threat to the community.
