In the late hours of September 5, 2016, the life of 37-year-old Bernell Jr. McCowin, an African-American man, was tragically cut short in an alley in Omaha, Nebraska. Neighbors near 60th and Ames Streets reported hearing the sound of gunfire, and upon investigating, they made a grim discovery. McCowin was found lying on his back, having been fatally shot.
