In the early afternoon of a Tuesday in Danville, Alabama, a violent altercation ended the life of 34-year-old Jacob Lee Palmer. Responding to a 911 call around 1:15 p.m., authorities arrived at a residence in the 2000 block of County Road 200 to find Palmer unresponsive in the front yard near his vehicle. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was subsequently ruled a homicide.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of 32-year-old Dustin Joel Baker of Danville. According to the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office, Baker admitted to shooting Palmer but claimed he acted in self-defense. Authorities believe that Palmer had gone to the residence where an altercation with Baker ensued. It is thought that Palmer was attempting to flee when he was shot.
Following his arrest and questioning, Dustin Joel Baker was charged with murder in connection with Jacob Lee Palmer's death. Despite the serious charge, Baker was later released from custody after posting bond. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting remains ongoing.
