On August 17, 1982, Melinda Ann Garza, a 2-year-old Hispanic female from Friona, Texas, died under circumstances that were initially attributed to natural causes. Her death was recorded as resulting from acute heart failure due to congenital heart disease. At the time, no autopsy was performed, and the case did not raise immediate suspicions.
