Sara "Sally" Taylor Hallett, a 59-year-old woman, was tragically murdered on April 21, 1973, in Aptos, California. She was the last victim of the infamous serial killer Edmund Kemper. Hallett was a close friend of Kemper's mother, Clarnell Strandberg, and worked alongside her at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Kemper lured Hallett to his mother's apartment under the pretense of a dinner invitation, only to strangle her upon arrival.
He later attempted to engage in necrophilic acts with her body before fleeing the scene in her car.
Kemper's reasoning for killing Hallett was strategic—he believed that if his mother disappeared alone, suspicions would arise. Following the murder, Kemper fled the area but later turned himself in to authorities. He was arrested and convicted for his crimes, including the murder of Hallett. His trial and subsequent imprisonment solidified his reputation as one of the most notorious serial killers in American history.
