On February 21, 1993, the body of Delores Mack, a 42-year-old African-American transgender woman from Metairie, Louisiana, was discovered in a canal along Louisiana Highway 3160 in Hahnville. Her death was attributed to strangulation. Notably, her body was found approximately 800 feet from where Cheryl Lewis, a 30-year-old African-American woman, had been found deceased just a day earlier under similar circumstances.
