Mitchell Johnson, a 34-year-old African American man, was found deceased in August 1999 beneath a roadway overpass in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. His body bore ligature marks, and an autopsy determined that he died from strangulation and neck compression. There were no defensive wounds, but signs of sexual assault were present.
