In March of 1992, the life of 13-year-old Stephanie Blundell, a White female from Magna, Utah, was tragically cut short. On a day that began like any other, Stephanie was walking from her home to school when she was abducted. For a time, her disappearance was treated as a runaway case, a painful and misleading classification for her worried family.
The truth, however, was far more sinister, and it would be four long years before the grim reality of what happened to Stephanie would come to light.
The initial investigation into Stephanie's disappearance yielded few leads, and her case grew cold. It wasn't until 1996 that a breakthrough occurred, not from a newly discovered clue, but from the conscience of an inmate already behind bars for other horrific crimes. Roberto Arguelles, a serial killer, confessed to the kidnapping, sexual assault, and murder of Stephanie Blundell. His confession was part of a larger admission of a string of brutal killings he had committed.
Following his confession, Arguelles led law enforcement to a remote location in American Fork Canyon. It was there, in a shallow grave, that Stephanie Blundell's remains were finally found, bringing a painful end to her family's search. Arguelles was on death row for his numerous crimes when he died in prison. His confession provided answers not only for Stephanie's family but also for the families of his other victims, closing a dark chapter of fear and uncertainty in the Salt Lake City area.
