John Lighter Frost, a 38-year-old sheriff from Chambers County, Texas, met a tragic end on November 10, 1900. Sheriff Frost was attempting to serve sequestration papers on a prominent citizen who managed a hunting preserve called Lake Surprise. During this duty, he was shot and killed.
