James W. Murray, a 47-year-old male, was the Burnet County Constable's Office - Precinct 1 officer in Texas. On December 20, 1901, he was shot and killed while investigating shots he heard near his home. As he approached the source of the disturbance, he encountered a deranged man armed with a gun. In an attempt to disarm the man, Constable Murray was mortally wounded. Despite his injuries, he managed to return fire and killed the suspect.
