On May 12, 1902, Officer Andrew J. Grimes, aged 39, of the Fort Worth Police Department was fatally shot in front of the Texas and Pacific Railroad Station. Officer Grimes, who had served with the department for two years, was attempting to enforce a city ordinance regarding where hacks could stand at the passenger station.
