On April 16, 1968, the Arellano family, consisting of Juan Arellano , Monica Lopez Arellano , Rosa Arellano , Eduardo Arellano , Leticia Arellano , and Manuel Arellano Jr. , were traveling from Mexico to San Angelo, Texas, to visit family. Their car broke down with a flat tire near U.S. Highway 277, south of Sonora, Texas. Tragically, five members of the family were brutally murdered in a rural area of Edwards County.
