Vickie Ann Bivins Bowen, a 44-year-old woman of Caucasian ethnicity, tragically died on October 16, 2003, at her home in Livingston, Texas. Born on February 11, 1959, in Greenville, Mississippi, she was the daughter of Clifford and Norma Bivins. She is survived by her parents, her son Joey Bowen, and her sister Terri Lynn Bivins.
The investigation into her death revealed that Vickie Bowen was murdered by her boyfriend, Donnie Lee Roberts.
Roberts, who was living with Bowen at the time, fatally shot her after an argument over money for drugs. Bowen refused his demands, leading Roberts to shoot her twice in the head with a .22 rifle. Following the murder, Roberts took several of Bowen's possessions to sell or trade for drugs.
Roberts was arrested the same day Bowen's body was discovered, as a truck missing from her home was spotted at a suspected crack house in Livingston. He confessed to the murder multiple times and was convicted by a Polk County jury. Roberts was sentenced to death and was executed by lethal injection on October 31, 2012.
The case highlighted the tragic consequences of drug abuse and domestic violence, and brought some measure of justice for Vickie Bowen and her family.
