On January 11, 2014, the San Angelo community was shaken by the tragic loss of Raul "Roy" Rodriguez, a 20-year-old Hispanic male. Born on January 5, 1994, Roy had just celebrated his milestone birthday days before his untimely passing. He was the beloved son of Raul Rodriguez of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Angelina Alvarado of San Angelo, Texas. Roy was also a devoted father to his young son, Fabian Jayden Rodriguez.
He is survived by his two sisters, Jo Ann Alvarado and Brandy Alvarado, both residents of San Angelo.
In the days following his passing, the community gathered to honor Roy's memory. A prayer service was held on the evening of Friday, January 17, 2014, at Gutierrez Funeral Chapels/North. The following morning, on Saturday, January 18, 2014, funeral services took place at the "Remembrance Chapel" of Gutierrez Funeral Chapels/North. Roy was then laid to rest at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, surrounded by family and friends who mourned the loss of such a young life.
The circumstances surrounding Roy's death are a somber reminder of the prevalence of gun violence. He was one of the victims in a tragic incident that also claimed the life of 23-year-old Ely Del Rio. Both young men were lost to gun violence on that fateful day in San Angelo.
Roy's passing left a void in the hearts of those who knew him. As a young father, son, and brother, his absence is deeply felt by his family and the broader community. The outpouring of support and shared memories from friends and loved ones stand as a testament to the impact he had during his short life. His legacy lives on through his son, Fabian, and the cherished memories held by those who loved him.
