Aaron Gault, a 29-year-old man from Taylor, Texas, was tragically found dead in his home on March 19, 2015. His mother discovered his body, and police determined that he had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his legs, one of which proved fatal. The crime scene showed signs of a struggle, with furniture overturned and items scattered around the house.
Gault's cell phone and money were also missing, indicating a possible robbery or burglary.
Three individuals were arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with Gault's death. Dwayne Edmond Rivens-Baker, 18, and Alex Xavier Wright, 21, were identified as suspects after a tip from a student led police to Rivens-Baker, who was already in custody on unrelated weapons charges. Rivens-Baker's fingerprints were found at the scene, and he confessed to shooting Gault after an argument broke out during a party at Gault's house. Wright was implicated when he told a friend he had to "make sure the dude was dead".
A third suspect, Sara Renee Coleman, 18, was also charged with capital murder. U.S. Marshals arrested Coleman in Houston, and she was transported to the Harris County Jail. Investigators believe that the three suspects were attempting to rob Gault when the shooting occurred. Elzie Sims, 21, was later charged as a fourth suspect, having allegedly participated in the crime alongside Rivens-Baker and Wright.
The case drew significant attention as it was the first homicide in Williamson County since 2009. The suspects faced the possibility of life in prison without parole or the death penalty if convicted of capital murder.
