Byron Dutch Piper, a 63-year-old male of unspecified ethnicity, was the former police chief of Rio Grande City, Texas. He died on June 23, 2015, at his residence in Rio Grande City. Piper's death was ruled a suspected suicide, as he was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The tragic event occurred just hours before Piper was scheduled to appear in federal court on charges of stealing federal funds.
