Derek Zagone, a 32-year-old man from Beaumont, tragically died on September 7, 2015, in Texas City, TX. He was fatally shot once in the chest during a confrontation with Bryan Winslow Phillips, 30, at Baypointe Manor Apartments in Texas City. The incident began when Phillips believed Zagone had stolen his gun and confronted him around 2 p.m. During the confrontation, both men pulled out guns, and Phillips shot Zagone. Zagone was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
