From the vehicle emerged a suspect, described as a Black male in his early twenties with distinctive ear-length dreadlocks dyed blond at the tips. Without warning, the individual opened fire, striking Parker multiple times. The sudden eruption of gunfire shattered the predawn stillness, leaving a young man's future extinguished in an instant. Following the shooting, the assailant quickly fled the scene, getting into a different vehicle, a green Ford Taurus, which had pulled up behind the Grand Prix, and disappeared west on Washington Avenue.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and Travis Donnell Parker was rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead a short time later.
